The samurai of Japan were the warrior class and defenders of the emperor for most of Japanese history. The armor worn by the samurai protected them from weapons but was also built for mobility and speed. They lived by the "bushido", a code of ethics the samurai came to honor. During their time, the samurai were not just warriors but a whole social class. Women and children were also trained in the warrior way and were part of the samurai.
