20" Standing Thai Buddha Statue

Thailand has produced some of the most beautiful and intricate Buddhist imagery and statuary in the world. With their serene faces, regal crowns, and lavishly decorated garments, Thai religious statues are among the most elegant produced in Buddhism or any other religion. This figure of a Thai Angel is a splendid example of that artistic tradition. In Thailand, as elsewhere in the Orient, statues of Buddha are used as guardians and good luck charm. Thai tradition also includes figures of other divine beings, reflecting that country's unique religious heritage. The statue wears an intricate crown and set of garments that leave no doubt that its position is among the most noble attainable, and yet we see it barefoot and on its knees. The hands are clasped in apparent supplication and the face is captured in a serene expression associated with a meditative trance. The angel is divine and is among the wealthiest and worthiest of all beings, yet it still seeks enlightenment and recognizes the virtues of diligence and humility. The statue is an excellent reminder that the best things in life are not always material possessions. It is also a beautiful illustration of the fact that no matter how great and accomplished on becomes, there is still something to be gained from quiet reflection and a humble bearing.
