Buddhist tradition tells of an enlightened monk who traveled the land bringing happiness and good fortune where ever he went. Some say that he also handed out candy to the children he met along his journey. Here we see the enlightened one or "Buddha" in a moment of rest. He reclines against his bag in a remarkably casual pose with his robe, a symbol of humility, sliding off his right shoulder. Despite the happy expression and comfortable position he retains an element of spirituality. The beads in his right hand are prayer beads, a symbol of his faith and devotion. The bag he leans against is a traditional monk's travel bag, a symbol of their poverty in that they owned no more than they could carry.
