Product Description

The large golden color symbols in this wall carving stand for good fortune. The Chinese believe it to be a good omen to decorate with art that has positive and beneficial meanings, such as in this breath-taking wall carving. This wall art piece features the Chinese "fu" symbols in a circular design that is surrounded by a pretty lattice design and frame. Under the "fu" symbols is a poem written in Chinese characters. Chinese calligraphy makes up a huge part of Chinese art. It was widely practiced throughout China and spread to other regions in Asia, most notably Japan, Taiwan and Korea. In fact, Chinese calligraphy and ink and wash painting are strongly associated due to both using similar techniques and tools. These mediums distinguished themselves from other forms of art mediums due to their importance of brush stroke and the need for complete concentration. In Chinese calligraphy, the brush never retraces its step. Once the line or character is drawn down on paper, canvas, or whichever material is being used, it stays there for all eternity. The artists of Chinese brushstroke and calligraphy technique therefore needed to be flawless with their brushes. This art form started approximately 4000 BC (which is equivalent to 6,000 years ago). Since that time, Chinese artists have been perfecting their art. It takes years of diligent study and practice for a novice to become proficient and then move on to master artist. The artist needs to take into account stroke order, balance, rhythm , character structure and the correct brush strokes. Chinese artists would practice just one character over and over again until they achieved a level of excellence in their art and writing of that character. Such is the tradition of the Chinese and Asian artists who have continued this amazing legacy on to this day. Nowadays we appreciate the Chinese for their artistic contributions but usually think little about the dedication and time artists put into their craft. This splendid wall carving will add a beautiful Asian flair to your room. Hang it in your home for a stunning decorative look.
