This unique fan of an Asian hamlet is painted entirely in black and white with a bluish tone that they call "Ton Om Faa" in Thailand, where this lovely fan is hand-made. The scene features huts, people, mountains and a waterfall. Simple yet beautiful, this original hand-painted fan is the only one we sell in these distinctive colors. The color theme in this work will match almost any decorative color scheme or wall color. In Asian culture, black and white are significant colors and each has its own meaning. Black was known as "heaven's color" and the ancient Chinese considered it the king of all colors. White symbolized purity, fulfillment and brightness. It is a color corresponding with metal and often worn during times of mourning in Chinese culture, which is the reverse of black in Western culture. This spectacular wall fan is made from strong Thai bamboo and rayon fabric for long lasting durability. The history of Thai wall fans dates back to the 19th century when Thai villagers, particularly in the north part of the country, began crafting wall fans by hand. Today that process is still done by hand, after which master artists skillfully paint a myriad of designs on them. These wall fans are then sold in the villages and night markets of Thailand, where many different designs can be seen. The quality of the work differs drastically. However, we only import the finest quality Thai fans and have been doing so for more than 10 years. Each Thai wall fan is approved and inspected for flaws by us before ever leaving the factory.
