This statue is a very beautiful and traditional depiction of the Buddha. His hair clings to his head in tight curls. The curls tell us that Buddha neither styles his hair, nor wears a headdress or crown, as he would have done when he lived among the nobility. Perched amid the curling hair is a traditional topknot. It is said that the Buddha’s mind expanded beyond all human norms and that his head had to grow to accommodate it. Buddha’s stretched earlobes are a reminder of the heavy jewelry he once wore. That jewelry is absent now, having been shed along the path to enlightenment. The sublime expression Buddha wears is the picture of meditation and relaxation. He is absolutely focused, but he appears to softly smile. Buddha’s quest for enlightenment does not make him harsh or severe. Instead it makes him gentle and happy. His eyebrows have the traditional “drawn bow” shape, as if he has just had some especially significant revelation. Sized to fit in almost any space and priced to fit almost any budget, this statue is a lovely addition to any eastern themed room and is guaranteed to add a touch a touch of tranquility to any home or office.
