17″ Large Japanese Sitting Buddha Statue

Buddha sits with his eyes closed in quiet contemplation. He appears relaxed, seated in a lotus position with his hands resting in his lap. Buddha could be sleeping but for the fact that his back is perfectly straight and his expression controlled. His pose and expression are a wonderful depiction of a man calm and at peace but still alert and engaged. This theme is displayed spiritually as well. Buddha wears a simple robe that cascades of his right shoulder and he has shed the heavy earrings that stretched his earlobes. This indicates that he is no longer concerned with material things. But he has not given up on the world entirely. At his feet rests an open fan. “Wishing fans” were a common item among medieval oriental nobility and were used to indicate that peasants’ requests would be granted. Here we see that Buddha has let the things that do not matter go but has not forgotten kindness and generosity to his fellow man. The statue is a lovely reminder of the need prioritize and to never throw out the good with the bad. It is a calming influence that will fit into almost any home or office space.
