16″ Thai Sitting Buddha Statue

This magnificent statue is one of the most colorful Buddhas on our website. Buddha sits in a traditional meditative lotus position with his hands in his lap. The darkness of his skin and hair magnificently contrast with his gold colored and beautifully decorated robes. The brightness of the robes really sets off his serene expression and his relaxed bearing. The robes remind us that Buddha began his life as a prince in India and that it was not until later in life that he gave up his worldly possessions to pursue the life of a wandering ascetic monk. It is an interesting contradiction that he wears the rich robes yet he is barefoot and has already shed the heavy earrings that were a sign of his wealth a nobility. Buddha’s eyes are closed in reflective meditation and he appears perfectly calm and at peace, yet his posture is straight and perfectly controlled. He no longer worries about worldly things but he still carries himself with regal dignity and grace. He is poor but that poverty does not preclude elegance. This statue is an excellent way to liven up any space in a way that is both bright and reserved, flamboyant and tasteful.
